Delta Packing was started in 1976 by Carl Elkins and Lee Mettler. Carl and Lee owned and managed the company until selling to the Costamagna family in May of 2001. Carl, along with Ernie's son Berton and daughter Annamarie, currently manage the day-to-day operations of Delta Packing.

Delta Packing has established long term relationships with over 70 growers located primarily in the AVA regions of Lodi, Amador, Paso Robles and Napa.

The Costamagna family has been farming throughout California’s San Joaquin valley for over three generations. They currently farm over 10,000 acres of grapes, cherries, walnuts, tomatoes and various other crops focusing on using sustainable and organic farming techniques. The Costamagna family believes in being good stewards of the soil to ensure that the farming operation can be passed on to future generations.

Delta Packing is a major grower, packer, and shipper of California cherries in the Spring and wine grapes and grape juice in the Fall. Their facility has over 100,000 square feet of cold storage located alongside railways and within a half a mile of a major highway corridor. Delta Packing's central location, cross-dock, and loading facility in the heart of grape country allows them to be a focal point for shipping grapes from numerous growers in the area. Grapes can be either hand-packed in the vineyard or can be custom packed at their shed. From there they are palletized and delivered to their facility within hours of harvest. The grapes are pre-cooled to 32-33°F, cold-stored, and readied to be shipped from any one of their 7 loading docks.

Delta Packing is centrally located in the Zinfandel capital of Lodi, 35 minutes south of Sacramento and 90 miles east of San Francisco, just west of the Sierra Nevada. The nearby Sacramento River Delta brings cool nights, along with our deep sandy clay soils, making it ideal for grape growing. Lodi has more than 75,000 acres of grapes grown by over 750 farmers. Lodi is the leading producer of all California wine districts for Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, and Zinfandel. Lodi is home to five major wineries and over 60 “boutique” wineries. More than 60 other leading wineries source grapes from Lodi. Lodi has a long history of good ‘ol days that seem to be getting better and better.
